An approach for ontological support of enterprise model interoperability

The current Enterprise Modeling Standards analyzed in the European Project IDEAS have been used in a restrained way due to lack of convergence. The concepts involved in the Frameworks, Enterprise Models and Languages offering a standard guide to the Enterprise Modeling do not support a dynamic adaptation of the models aiming to the interoperability. In order to manage the complex and dynamic organizational knowledge a multi-system multidimensional framework is introduced. The approach proposed here deploys in a lifecycle-centered knowledge system, ten knowledge dimensions that agree with the lifecycle phases and in a context-centered knowledge system, thirteen universal knowledge contexts. Only some dimensions are required to generate an Enterprise Modeling Ontology, which carries the concepts exceeding the categories contained in the current modeling standards. This ontology aims to support the integration and interoperability of Enterprise Models. The generation of the ontology and the requirements for the development of the enterprise models is illustrated with an example exploiting a predefined basic knowledge unit.
