The components of the Common Rail fuel injection system (CRS) are designed for finite life with respect to material fatigue. Their lifetime depends on the internal pressure load. One of the main influences on the load is the driver behaviour whose statistical distribution in the field is unknown. This adds uncertainty to the results of lifetime calculations. The paper compares two approaches to deal with this problem and shows their effect on the results of the lifetime calculation.
