In this woik the ultrasonic attenuation and the backscattet coefficient^ of bovine cancelious bone were determined with through transmission and pulse echo measurements correspondingly. A scattering model, based c on sound speed fluctuations in a binary mixture, was applied to predict the determined ultrasonic properties as functions of porosity and scatterer size Good agreement in the magnitudes of these properties between theory and experiment were observed Linear relationships between the exponent of the frequency dependence of the backscatter coefficient and the porosity were found for scatterer sizes larger than 150 urn.
