The operational calculus originally introduced by Heaviside is shown to be applicable to forming image principles for various electromagnetic problems. The image expression is first reduced to the form of a pseudo-differential operator applied to the original source function (for a point source this is the delta function) The final step is its interpretation in terms of computable functions For complicated operators an approximation can be done at this stage The Heaviside method replaces previously applied, often heuristic, identification processes by a logical procedure. The method is first applied to one-dimensional tiansmission-line problems which arise naturally from three-dimensional physical problems Examples show the use of the method for various electromagnetic boundary-value problems.
