The plant Anacardium occidentale Linn, known popularly as the cashew tree, has wide distribution throughout Brazil, mainly in northeastern Brazil. Various pharmacological properties are attributed to the extract of the cashew such as the treatment ofcough, syphilis, bronchitis, arthritis, intestinal colic, jaundice, excess fluids (as diuretic), and wounds (Olajide et al. 2004; Morais et al. 2005; Agra et al. 2007). Proven pharmacological activities for the cashew plant can be found in the literature
