A comparison has been made of the predictions of various slug frequency methods and laboratory and field data from the OVIP (OLGA Verification and Improvement Project) database. The comparison shows that the Shea method gives better predictions for the data than any of the other methods. The field data sets show a strong dependency of the slug frequency with pipeline length, a variable that is an integral part of the Shea method, but is not included in any of the other published slug frequency methods. The comparison shows error bands for the various methods, which is useful when using the correlations for design purposes.
