Numerical simulation of the south-west monsoon orographic effect was performed by the MM5. The weather; simulation was conducted for the case studies during the south-west monsoon season; July 5-7, August 29 - 30, a September 11-13, 2003 on two-way nesting for a coarse domain and a nest domain of grid distances 60 km and 20 km; respectively for 24 hours. Also two-way nesting for three domains at grid distance 90 km, 30km, and 10 km was simulated on September 12, 2003. Upwind vertical velocity along the Thanon Thong Chai Mountain Range indicates the upslope lifting of moist aid where big cloud clusters usuaHy form. Predicted rainfalls in the vicinity of the mountain range were 40 - 45 mm oaf July 5 - 7, 60 - 64 mm on August 29 - 31 and 60 - 67 mm on September 12, 2003.
