Succinic acid is a dicarboxylic acid which has attracted great interest as a green feed stock for the manufacture of synthetic resins, biodegradable polymers and chemical intermediates. In the case of succinic acid, many researches were performed about reactive extraction using TOA (tri-n-octylamine) as an extractant. Extracted succinic acids by TOA had to back-extract from the TOA-succinic acid complex in the organic phase for the final production. In this study, the effect of temperature and pH in the aqueous phase on the back-extraction was investigated. And the effect of concentration of oleic acid which has low water solubility as a displacer of succinic acid in succinic acid-TOA complex was investigated. Also, the change of total amount of back-extracted succinic acid was observed through the increase volume of aqueous phase in the back-extraction process.
