In this paper, the authors present a mathematical modelling method to explore individual occlusal movements and to model the associated occlusal surface utilizing coupled points and registration methods. An optical tracking device is used to track and collect discrete data from an individual's occlusion movements, from which, a personalized occlusal surface is accordingly built. The theory-based modelling outcome provides crucial information for customized false teeth fabrication. The proposed system can overcome the deficiencies of the widely used mechanical articulators in present-day dental clinics.
