We consider origin of the dielectric boson peak observed in liquids, super-cooled liquids and glassy solids of hydrogen bonding liquids such as polyhydric alcohols. Similarity in the THz dielectric loss peaks observed in glycerol, 1,2-propandiol and 2-propanol has been found for the first time. Analysis of the THz peaks of several pentanol isomers (pentyl alcohols) suggests that the peak height is reflected by local amorphousness. This concept can be generalized to the boson peak observed in polyhydric alcohols such as glycerol.
