For boundary detection in a black and white images (intensity image), when the gray scale change between sense and object is not big enough, it is difficult to find object edges and boundary. Some edges may be lost. Detection in a range image acquired under the condition of constructive light illumination, is not affected by either sense gray scale or the structure of object surface, which results in a reliable, accurate boundary detection of 3D object, that provides the characteristic information for object recognition. Experimental results showed that continuous and closed boundary can be obtained from the image.
