Site characterization and site planning for the reclamation of brown fields of former open-pit mining sites with help of cone penetration tests

Many open-pit mines are very intensively investigated in east Germany by the means of cone penetration test to describe the inhomogeneity of these sites and to establish the correlation between cone penetration resistance and geotechnical parameters. In this paper, a strategy for brown fields site investigations based on statistical methods is presented. Beside the description of the statistical method, an example regarding the brown fields in eastern part of Germany is given and the results are discussed.
