Environmental Issues Related to the Use of Creosote Wood Preservative

Mr. Stephen T. Smith: Thank you, Bill. The title of the paper I wrote is, Environmental Issues Related to the Use of Creosote Wood Preservative. I prepared this at the request of the Creosote Council that was done a year ago in response to the petition filed by NCAMP to US EPA asking that EPA suspend the use of creosote, as well as the other wood preservatives. The paper I wrote was one part of the package that the Creosote Council submitted to EPA. This is more the title I would like to put on this, "Why I Like Creosote", There are many reasons why, just the nature of creosote, it has a number of characteristics that I think make it both a good preservative, and environmentally friendly.
