Sampling of 16 USEPA priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs)at the Gandy Bridge monitoring site between May and August 2002 provided preliminary ambient air concentrations and dry deposition rates for Tampa Bay.The HiC-IOGAPS dramatically improved the recovery of lower molecular weight gas and particle PAHs,as evidenced by the recoveries of PAHs in back-up denuders and filter packs.Three days of PAH concentration data showed significant variability in gas,particle and total concentrations;for two of the three days,the total PAH concentration was ~100 ng m~(-3).Concentrations of aphthalene,acenaphthylene,fluorene,phenanthrene,anthracene,fluoranthene and pyrene were consistently higher than concentrations of the remaining nine PAHs.Dry deposition rates were much higher for naphthalene,fluorene,and anthracene than previously estimated,assuming a unidirectional flux of these compounds from air to water.Estimated daily PAH total(gas plus particle)dry deposition rates ranged from 0.4 μg m~(-2)d~(-1)to 7 μg m~(-2)d~(-1).
