It is fundamental neurology that one not lose sight of the fact that this process is localizing only. The differential may be limited or broad depending upon the localization but, nevertheless, localization does not equate with diagnosis. A fundamental ground-rule in neurology is that surprises await those who jump to conclusions and patients and families may not be well served by surprises.
