Generally, small animal reproduction is a rewarding subspecialty in veterinary medicine. Reproductive practice encompasses the interesting fields of internal medicine, reproductive physiology, endocrinology, embryology, neonatology, pediatrics, genetics, metabolism, nutrition, critical care, anesthesia, pharmacotherapeutics and anatomy. The American College of Theriogenology (ACT) and the Society for Theriogenology (SFT) provide expertise and welcome interaction with practitioners with special interest in reproduction. Reproductive practice is uniquely both medical and surgical; obstetrics and pediatrics are undeniably rewarding parts of the specialty. Technicians and assistants enjoy assisting with reproductive cases, where hard work is rewardedwith puppies and kittens. Although demanding of a clinician's tune and expertise, the breeder client tends to be very loyal and compliant. Outstanding breeder clients can be cultivated. A reproductive practice generates its own referrals, and usually isquite busy as consequence of internal referrals and those from other practitioners in the area. Networking of veterinarians practicing reproductive medicine across the country is growing.
