Supplemental oxygen is one of the most common drugs administered in the critically ill veterinary patient. Oxygen, one of the most basic and essential molecules for sustaining life, should be thought of as a drug, as supplemental oxygen, at times under certain conditions, can also become toxic and lead to increased patient morbidity and mortality.
