Development of Totally Dry Single Optical Fiber Cables for Wide Wavelength Range Applications

This paper describes the optical fiber cables using single optical fibers advantageous in fiber access for optical access network configuration and expansion. Newly developed cables are SZ slotted rod and dry tube types with the following features: · Easy mid-span branching with SZ slotted rod, or self-supporting structure with excess length · Easy fiber access in totally dry structure · High-count used fibers in cables with single optical fibers · Wide applicable wavelength range through the use of Zero Water Peak-SMF (ZWP-SMF) Those newly developed optical fiber cables are evaluated at 1310, 1380, 1550 and 1625 nm, which fall within the CWDM transmission method. Though results are satisfactory in most tested properties, some properties need to be studied further.
