^7fThe key characteristics of the environmental chamber used for measuring the effect of temperature and humidity on insertion loss of cat 6 cable are described. A theoretical relationship between temperature, relative humidity and precipitable water is given. After validation of the test protocol for certain cable sample coil sizes and positions in the chamber, insertion loss results for temperature and humidity variation are given. The temperature coefficient, Tc is calculated and compared to results for polynomial models. The humidity variation ranged from 50-93% at 40°C and 60°C. The paper concludes with recommendations for further supportive theoretical and empirical work.
