A Model for Helical Tape Shields

Despite the increasing use of foil helical shields, there are limited available studies relating to them. This paper contributes a method for calculating the primary parameters for a helically wound tape shield. It revises previous methods, by including a formulation for the capacitance between the turns. It also attempts to derive an expression for the transfer impedance, which takes into account the self-resonance phenomenon caused by the capacitance present between the turns. Finally, a numerical example has been included and compared with existing measurements with encouraging results.
