This paper is a case study on the application of Six Sigma techniques to a common foundry scrap problem ... miscut scrap. For turbocharger blades at Concorde, scrap stemming from miscutting during the cut-off operation was identified as being Critical to Quality. A team was put together to focus on the project the goal for which was to reduce miscut scrap by 90 percent. During the process, the team went through the Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control Steps that characterize the Six Sigma- approach. A process improvement was made that had a measurable impact on miscut scrap rate
