In many instances, smaller to medium size foundries consider an in-house metallographic laboratory as an unnecessary luxury, a capability that can be purchased by outside laboratories when the necessity arises. But it is often overlooked that an in-house capability has many advantages that are not realized if these services are purchased on the outside. Testing in an outside lab takes time and money. Often times, a production related issue or problem needs attention immediately, you can't wait a week for lab results, and you have no account to charge the outside testing lab costs . So it generally doesn't get done, and we do the best we can with the resources at our fingertips. Since SeaCast's inception, we have had metallugraphic capabilities.
