The aging process of a pH sensing glass membrane in a high temperature environment was studied. Based on the complex impedance spectra, simulations were carried out to obtain equivalent circuits of the pH sensing glass membrane. Analysis of the simulated equivalent circuits indicates two components in the glass membrane, one the surface layer which is responsible for pH sensing and the other is the bulk layer which forms the mechanical structure. The surface layer showed significant change after high temperature aging. Comparison of different pH sensing glass showed that a pH sensing glass with lower surface impedance exhibits longer service life.
