Designing of Stiffened Composite Shell

Shell structures have been used in many fields, including aerospace, ship, submarine and other industries. These structures usually are applied with stiffener together to get a lightweight structure. The most stiffened shell structures are made of steel or aluminum. The disadvantages of such stiffened structures are heavier weight and higher production cost because the structures can't be produced in simple process. Possessing high specific strength and high specific stiffness, composites have been used in many industries and military applications, especially structures requiring lightweight. The present paper analyzes a stiffened composite shell by use of FEM, and compares the results with ones of an aluminum shell.
