Available self-protected power transistors are full custom products primarily intended for the largest application areas such as automotive. These can be inappropriate for other applications particularly where additional functionality needs to be integrated into the protection scheme. To overcome this, for the first time a smart monolithic device integrating a configurable component array with a true vertical power transistor has been developed. A version suitable for low side applications is already available, and a high side variant will follow soon.
