Persistence in Partnership - Evaluation of a Back Injury Intervention by WorkCover NSW in the NSW Health Services Industry

The NSW health services industry has experienced a 40% reduction in the incidence rate for major back injury claims since 1994/95. The improvement appears primarily to be in patient handling, and be associated with the Partnership that commenced between WorkCover NSW and the health industry, although no association can be proved. The Partnership commenced in 1994 through the BackWatch Program focusing on manual handling risk management. This focus and Partnership continued after 1998 through WorkCover’s Health & Community Services Team.
