In this paper, a new single end adaptive fault location approach using fuzzy logic theory is introduced. The approach is capable of dealing with both single and multi circuit transmission lines with a precise accuracy even for those cases associated with high impedance fault values. Based on fuzzy logic, the resulted total estimation error of the calculated fault distance is tuned depending on the available data at the sending end. In order to optimize the adopted fuzzy network parameters, the Adaptive Network Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) training paradigm was employed through MATLAB. This effectively improved the approach performance. The ATP-EMTP simulation program was employed to evaluate the approach accuracy, where all applied test results corroborate its superior performance.
