A method by analysis and experiment is sought for a method to enhance sound insulation performance of a door in a form of the sandwich structure. By the sandwich model for analysis, it is found that the predicted accounts well for the measured. With the analytical tool and results of material test, the selected design variable is elastic modulus of the core in order to tune mass-spring-mass resonance frequency. The results show that the influence of the fiber direction on the sound insulation performance is of great importance since change of fiber direction from vertical to horizontal causes mass-spring-mass resonance to significantly lower. Consequently, the sound insulation performance of the horizontal case compared to the vertical case is enhanced by more than 5 dB, without any increase of door weight. The door having window shows another mass-spring-mass resonance belongs to window.
