Measurement and Analysis of Vibration Energy Flow on Compressor Casings

The vibration intensity (VI) method is one of effective technologies for vibration power flow analysis. In the present research, the time-averaged VI and envelope VI were measured using the three-channel method on air-conditioner compressor casings. Vibration energy flow patterns and energy sources were identified. The vibration energy flow pattern and energy source distribution were compared between compressors with and without noise-vibration reduction measures to discuss whether the measures were effective. Time-averaged VI showed that the average value of the magnitude of vibration energy flow for all measuring points for the compressor with the noise-vibration measures was about one-eighth as small as that for the compressor without the measures. The time-averaged VI showed that energy sources existed near the lower edge of the stator for the compressor without the measures. Envelope VI showed that a possible explanation for some energy sources was that the discharged coolant collided with the lower edge of the stator and excited the casing.
