Noise Source Identification and Control of a Scroll Compressor

Noise characteristics of a scroll compressor can be varied very much whether it is operated under load-condition or not. However measurements must be conducted under load condition in order to investigate noise characteristics of compressor noise. But the noise source identification under load condition is very difficult. In this paper, relatively simple technique of identification was presented. By using acoustical holography, the source of noise of the scroll compressor was figured out. In addition, the compressor structure was modified by considering the results of holographic analysis and has reduced noise from these sources efficiently.
