Surface dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) actuators are investigated for their application as flow control device. A dielectric barrier discharge actuator with a thin circular wire as active HV electrode is compared to a standard plate-to-plate DBD actuator. The reduction of the diameter of the wire results in a change in the discharge, the streamer regime being replaced by a glow regime. According to the diameter of the wire, the body force and the produced electric wind can be improved and velocity up to 7 m/s has been measured. Moreover, the use of such a wire in a multi-DBD design allows the actuator to produce electric wind velocity up to 11 m/s.
