Delivering an Undergraduate Course to a Cross-cultural Market using the World Wide Web

This Paper addresses some issues confronting academics at London Metropolitan University (LondonMet) when they negotiated to deliver long-distance learning in collaboration with an institution in Hong Kong (HK), using the World Wide Web (WWW) as a communication and teaching vehicle. We discuss the strategies that have evolved to provide a working infrastructure for course delivery in a global marketplace with limited resources. We explore the practicalities confronting individual academics when adapting modules for e-learning to two very different cultures at the same time. We conclude the need to adopt an organic philosophical approach to programme delivery and a preparedness to change and respond to a highly dynamic cross-cultural client audience.
