Wider Aspects of The Energy Review - Can The Market Deliver?

Can the energy market deliver? The simple answer is whether it can or not, there is a perception that whatever the merits of the market, certain things - most notably security of supply - cannot be left solely to markets to deliver. I accept that there are socio-political objectives around diversity of supply, fuel poverty, and nuclear power where citizens and governments quite rightly have a view. However, I will nail my colours firmly to the mast and say that I am a firm believer in, and supporter of, markets. Indeed, it is essential that in the course of the Energy Review we do not lose sight of the benefits our market system has delivered. It has responded to do so provided a clear consistent policy framework is put in place and some of the barriers which are hampering its operation are removed.
