Deformation microstructures of an IF steel warm rolled to 10 and 30 percent reduction in thickness have been characterised by TEM in the longitudinal and transverse sections of the deformed samples. Extended planar dislocation boundaries were clearly revealed in the longitudinal section, while a more complicated morphology was observed in the transverse section. The observed grains were classified into three groups of different crystallographic orientations and it was found that the morphology and structural parameters characterizing the microstructure differed significantly between the groups. This illustrates the importance of the grain orientation on the microstructural evolution which is a characteristic feature of cold deformation.
