Modeling turbulent flows involving chemical reactions remains an open question at present time. The accuracy of existing turbulent combustion models is poor, which prevents quantitative comparisons with experimental results. Laminar flames are therefore very important as a possible test-case for the detailed validation of numerical tools, since accurate quantitative measurements now become possible and since a very accurate solution can be obtained by solving numerically the Navier-Stokes equations. Of course quantitative comparisons on chemical species can only be carried out if detailed reaction schemes, multicomponent diffusion velocities and accurate thermodynamic coefficients are employed. Other physical models can be required, depending on the application. But at any rate a thorough validation procedure becomes possible, since the unsolved question of the coupling with turbulence has been removed.
