In this paper, we propose a novel image authentication method for authenticating digital Chinese calligraphy images. Our proposed scheme applies the S-tree technique to retrieve some important features from the host image and then uses them to verify the integrity of the host image. Our scheme has the following advantages. First, it does not modify the original image. Second, it does not need the original image in the authentication process. Third, it can tolerate lossy JPEG and JPEG2000 compression. Fourth, it is secure and efficient. From the experimental results and analysis, we can say that our image authentication scheme is indeed very suitable for authenticating Chinese calligraphy images.
