Operations Research is treated as science devoted to describing, understanding and predicting the behavior of the systems, particularly man-machine systems. Thus operations research helps in: (a) Describing the behavior of the systems (b) Analysing this behavior by constructing appropriate models (c) Using these models to predict future behavior, that is the effects that will be produced by changes in the systems or in the methods of operations. Optimization means achieving the best that is to achieve maximum or minimum value of the operating parameters. Operations research uses suitable techniques or tools available to achieve the above goal. The techniques like, linear program, waiting line theory, game theory, inventory control models and simulation and some common tools like non-linear programming, integer programming, dynamic programming, sequencing theory, Markov process, network scheduling -
