The present work concerns the activity performed to upgrade a finite volume CFD solver (HybFlow, see Adami, 2000) for computing heat transfer in gas turbine cooling devices. More precisely the “conjugate simulation” of the flow field heat transfer and the metal heat conduction has been considered. To this aim the original solver has been coupled to a routine solving the Fourier equation in the solid domain. This modification allows the “conjugate heat transfer” investigation of the heat transfer in the fluid flow and solid domains at the same time. The approach has been validated through two different test-case applications. The first is a simple flow over a flat plate while the second is a film-cooled plate. Finally a more complex application is reported as an example for a complete 3D film cooled NGV blade. The simulation couples the thermal field inside the metal with the flow field in the vane, the two plenum channels and the six rows of cooling channels as well.
