摘要

Localized modes of failure are classically analyzed by a plastic strain localization criterion given by the vanishing values of the determinant of the acoustic tensor. However, some failure modes do not exhibit any localization pattern and a crucial question appears: what is the proper criterion for diffuse failure? An answer attempt is proposed in this paper in both frameworks of continuum mechanics and discrete mechanics through the second order work criterion.
