EXPERIMENTAL AND SIMULATION STUDY ON TRISTABLE BEHAVIOUR OF CROSS-SHAPED UNSYMMETRIC FIBER-REINFORCED CROSS-PLY LAMINATES This paper presents a cross-shaped unsymmetric fiber-reinforced cross-ply laminates, which is different from square-shaped unsymmetric fiber-reinforced cross-ply laminates and has three stable configurations. The third stable equilibrium configurations is a transition stable state which is occur in the snap process from first to second equilibrium configurations. The snap process, including first-third-second and second-third-first, between different stable equilibrium configurations of a tristable cross-shaped unsymmetric laminates is investigated by experiment and simulation methods. The parameters used to characterize the tristable performances of the laminates, including stress distributions of the laminates in the second and third stable states, principle curvature, snap load and displacement are measured. Load-displacement curves and buckling phenomena in the snapping process are successfully captured. The influences of material properties, geometrical parameters and the thickness of single layer on the tristable performance of cross-shaped unsymmetric fiber-reinforced cross-ply laminates are discussed. The results show that experimental and simulation results agree very well.
