摘要

The CALIPSO satellite was launched on 28 April, 2006 and is now flying as part of the Afternoon Constellation (A-train). The CALIPSO mission was designed to provide unique measurements to improve our understanding of the role of aerosols and clouds in the Earth's climate system. CALIPSO carries infrared and visible passive imagers, along with the Cloud Aerosol Lldar with Orthogonal Polarization (CALIOP, pronounced as "calliope"), the first polarization lidar in orbit. CALIOP has acquired near-continuous data since 'first light' on 7 June 2006.
