Flat panel projection TV using an acrylic wedge

Television displays form 30% of the $50bn annual displays market, and television screens with diagonals greater than 60" are needed for home cinema. The least expensive way to create such big screens is by projection, but rear projection displays are too bulky for Europe and Japan. A transparent wedge can be used to get projection within a panel less than 12 mm thick, and a PMMA wedge will be less heavy, more easily moulded and less brittle than glass alternatives. A display with a 14" diagonal has been made, but bigger displays will require purer PMMA.
