Ultra-bright green light-emitting diodes (LEDs) are used as DC and AC electrical current optical active transducers. The intensity/wavelength modulated light is POF-linked to the receiver on the ground potential. Remote wavelength demodulation of the LED broadband spectra is performed by receivers based on passive or active filtering techniques. Passive receivers use of colored (orange) glass or brown polymer long-pass filters. Active receivers are built from wavelength-sensitive devices (WSD). The optical system here described complies with a hybrid current transformer.
