Utilization of underground spaces

摘要

As a result of the downturn and restructuring of the mining industry, owing to theunprofitability of extraction of certain raw materials, mining activities at all locations in theCzech Republic have been downscaled or terminated. Although alternative utilization ofunderground spaces has often been considered, economic realities and the negative attitudeof society have posed obstacles for the plans. This paper describes the use of undergroundstructures. It includes an overview of the assumptions and the concept of storing wasteunderground and utilization of underground spaces for speleotherapy, as well as formuseum management purposes and preserving mining traditions.
