Realization of Sustainable Society: Recycle of Demolished Concrete Waste

Sustainability is important for the protection of the earth, continued growth, and human development. This paper provides an overview of the development of technologies for recycling construction and demolition concrete waste with aim of realizing a sustainable concrete industry. First the worldwide market opportunities for recycled aggregate concrete are presented. Next the economic benefits, and policies and strategies to overcome the barriers to concrete recycling are presented. Then an overview of methods of manufacturing recycled aggregate and the problems with quality of concrete made from recycled aggregate until now are also addressed as well as economic and political considerations are discussed. And finally, some aspects to new technologies aimed at improving the quality of recycled aggregates are introduced.
