This paper back-analyses the results of previously reported centrifuge model test data using the computer program DYNEQ, which was derived from SHAKE. By adjusting the parameters of geotechnical properties such as the maximum shear modulus, shear modulus reduction and damping ratio of soft clay, the analysis results can be matched reasonably well with the measured data. Then using the same parameters of geotechnical properties of soft clay obtained by the back analysis, parametric study was performed to investigate the effects of thickness of soft ground and intensity and shape of earthquake motion on amplification factor and resonance frequency, thereby allowing the centrifuge model results to be extended to cover a wider range of cases.
