Dynamic performance of driving vehicles on long-span bridges under hurricane-induced strong winds

Dynamic analysis of vehicles running on bridges is conducted when strong wind induced by hurricane exists. The 2-axle vehicle is modeled as a combination of a rigid body, four axle mass blocks, totally eight springs and eight dampers. The external load consists of wind loading on the bridge, quasi-steady wind force on the vehicles, and road roughness induced loading on both the bridge and vehicles. The wind dynamic loading on the bridge consists of self-excited force and buffeting force, while the quasi-steady forces on vehicles are adopted to consider the turbulent wind effect in a simplified way. As the frame work of a systematical study, a general three-dimensional dynamic model of the vehicles is developed. Based on the time history simulation of wind loading and roughness, the dynamic response can be derived with programs developed based on Simulink~R package. Vehicle and bridge performance under lowand high wind speed s are compared.
