This paper deals with the wind forces on inclined circular cylinders in different flow regimes. The flow mechanism is studied based on the pressure data recorded in an experimental investigation with a stationary cylinder model in smooth flow. Among the test configurations with both inclined and yawed model at Reynolds numbers between 1 x 10~5 and 6 x 10~5, the set-ups with zero yaw angle are primarily discussed. The three-dimensional character of the flow is identified in terms of a phase lag between the forces along the cylinder. At the transition to the turbulent boundary layer flow regime, an interaction between the broad-banded weakening vortex shedding process and a low frequency flow component appears to take place.
