Thirty-five local varieties of T. dicoccum from Central and Southern Italy have been characterized for agro-morphological aspects and at the molecular level with ESTs, ISSRs and RFLPs molecular markers. The analysed materials showed distinctive molecular traits and the existence of an important amount of diversity between varieties. Among 35 local varieties, 25 progenies of nine accessions have been chosen and characterized for their agro-morphological aspects and at the DNA level with EST markers. The results showed distinctive molecular traits and the existence of diversity within the analysed populations.
