In the progeny of a cross between the common wheat cultivar Tahti and Triticum militinae (a derivative of T. timopheevii), a single seed descendant line with improved resistance to powdery mildew in the adult-plant stage was selected. In three years of field trials, less than 5% of leaf surface of this line was covered by powdery mildew in the adult stage as compared to the 25-35% of the parent cultivar Tahti. Adult plant resistance to powdery mildew did not segregate in the progeny. The line showedresistance to 11 test-isolates of powdery mildew in the seedling stage, however,, resistance to some of the isolates is segregating in the progeny. Doubled haploids have been derived from this line. Using microsatellite and AFLP mapping, T. militinae origin translocations are analysed in a backcross F_2 population in order to detect translocations from T. militinae involved in the powdery mildew resistance of this line.
